Krohn Racing will compete in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class of competition in the newly formed series with their Ferrari F458. For the past two seasons, the team competed with this same green-and-blue liveried Prancing Horse in the FIA World Endurance Championship in the GTE-Am class.
Team owner/driver Tracy W. Krohn and long-time co-driver Nic Jönsson will pilot the No. 57 Ferrari in the test this weekend, as well as at the upcoming Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona at the Daytona Beach, Fla. circuit.
"I'm expecting massive competition for this weekend." Krohn said. "Tests are always interesting because you have a lot of people that haven't been to the track and you have people that have, and you have several different classes. Everybody's trying new things and the weather is iffy here, quite cold, so there's very low grip. It's exciting to take part in a new championship, although I've never raced in a series that had no rules at a test that was so close to the start of the season. I am sure IMSA will get it resolved and the Rolex 24 will be another great event, both for us and for the series."
Joining Krohn and Jönsson for the 52nd annual running of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona later this month will be Ferrari ace Andrea Bertolini and UK-sports car star Peter Dumbreck.
"Peter Dumbreck is a very accomplished driver. He was with Aston Martin last year. Bertolini is a Ferrari factory driver so we're looking forward to adding him to the team. He will do the remainder of the races in the series. We're very happy to have them both, and I'm sure they will pick up the slack for me."
Bertolini is an official Scuderia Ferrari F1 development driver and official test driver of the Maserati factory. He most recently competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship in the AF Corse Ferrari, and brings a wealth of Ferrari knowledge and experience to the team.
Peter Dumbreck, a former Mercedes-Benz DTM driver, finished 3rd in the Privateer's class of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2012 and also earned a sixth place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans that same year. Dumbreck also notably won the Macau Grand Prix in 1998.
Krohn and Jönsson teamed up for the 24 Hours of Daytona from 2005-2013, a total of nine Daytona events together, with Jönsson's car of a two-car effort finishing fourth overall in 2008. Krohn and Jönsson brought home a fourth overall finish together in 2010 with Ricardo Zonta and Colin Braun also sharing driving duties.
Krohn Racing will also compete in the three additional IMSA endurance races in 2014, including the 12 Hours of Sebring in March, the Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen in August, and the season finale at Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in October. The green Krohn machine will also compete at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas, which Krohn now considers his home track after recently moving his racing operation to Houston, Texas.
