2012 Rolex 24 at Daytona 18 Hour Race Report

2012 Rolex 24 at Daytona 18 Hour Race Report After Krohn Racing's lengthy pit stop to change the entire rear end of the car during the eleventh hour of the Rolex 24 at Daytona race, the next six hours were relatively uneventful for the popular green-and-blue liveried car.

Colin Braun finished his double stint and turned the car over the team owner/driver Tracy W. Krohn at 5:40 a.m. ET. Krohn's double stints were without incident and he turn over the car to Nic Jönsson just before the 15 hour mark. Jönsson also had a double stint. A small contact with a GT car in the "bus stop" and a deflating tire caused an unscheduled pit stop for Jönsson and all four tires were changed, along with fuel added. Jönsson turned over the No. 76 machine to Ricardo Zonta after 8:00 a.m. ET. Zonta is scheduled for another double stint.

Colin Braun, driver of the No. 76 Krohn Racing Proto-Auto Lola Ford:
"I guess my stint was okay. It's just a tough spot to be 40 laps or so down. The guys did a really good job changing the whole back end. That's a big job, so it was great work by those guys. It's tough because there's not a whole lot to gain but a lot to lose so you've got to be patient and smart, but at the same time keep making laps and clicking them away. It's not a great place to be but it's still fun to drive race cars."

Nic Jönsson, driver of the No. 76 Krohn Racing Proto-Auto Lola Ford:
"When I got back in the car around 6:00 in the morning, I was struggling a little bit with the gears going into Turn One. I was locking up a few times and got a little wide. At one point we had a little bit of contact going into the "bus stop". One of the Ferraris just came down on me. We might have broken a valve stem or something because the right rear tire started going down. We had to do a pit stop about halfway through the stint and got fuel and tires on. Then I had to double stint those tires and I was really struggling towards the last 20 minutes or so in the stint. Right now it's just survival mode and just staying out there to bring the Proto-Auto Lola back home. Being 40-some laps down, we are just hanging out there and driving around. The car, I think, is maybe a Top 4 or 5 car as far as speed goes. The No. 60, 8 and 01 cars are definitely the dominating cars. Otherwise we can run with all the rest of the cars. The car has been reliable except the issue we had with the half shaft. It was like a domino effect then. Now we just want to try to finish out this race."
